FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I have to be Asian to join AAPI?

Absolutely not! Anyone is welcome to join AAPI. AAPI is not about being Asian, but about learning about different Asian cultures. Being Asian is neither requirement nor a recommendation.

Do I need to buy an AAPI T-Shirt?

You do not need an AAPI t-shirt unless you plan to volunteer or go on field trips with AAPI. Members need to have an AAPI shirt for uniformity and practicality sake. Otherwise, the AAPI shirt is completely optional

What happens if you're inactive?

At the end of the year, the officer team will complete the points spreadsheet. It is all of the members' responsibility to keep track of their points (we even have a spreadsheet for easy access). All members who don't have enough points will need to make them up before the deadline. If the member still does not meet requirements by then, then that member will be considered inactive for that year. They will not be allowed be recognized as an AAPI 2023-2024 member. Inactive members will also be prevented from attending any major events at the end of the year like field trips.

How do I apply to become a member?

We're glad you're interested! To apply to become an AAPI member, it's very simple. Fill out the Google form found on the homepage, pay the appropriate fees on SchoolCashOnline (Membership Fee +T-Shirt Fee if you're planning to volunteer or go on field trips), and done! You're now an AAPI Member!

The membership application to become an AAPI member for the 2023-2024 school year will be due on October 1st.

What do AAPI members do?

2022-2023 will be AAPI's second year doing in-person activities and we have a lot planned! In addition to monthly member meetings where members learn about significant Asian holidays, members will have the opportunity to attend socials (game nights, movie nights, club collabs with other Asian clubs in the district), go on field trips, volunteer with/at local Asian organizations, and much much more!

Volunteering? Is AAPI a volunteering club then?

Nope. AAPI knows that members are in other clubs that require volunteering hours. We are a culture club, so requiring volunteering hours is not on our agenda. Instead, we provide members with a variety of volunteering places and events to attend for outside hours and other clubs. You will not need volunteering hours for AAPI membership, but you can use our resources for other clubs as outside hours. Just email us if your club requires confirmation for outside hours.

Are there hour requirements for AAPI?

AAPI does not run under an hour requirement system. Instead, we use points. Each event and meeting is worth a specific amount of points and 20 points must be reached by the end of the year to be considered an active member. However, the point requirements are not meant to be overwhelming and are flexible for members who communicate with officers about their points. To find more information about points, please navigate the subpages under "Resources."

Are meetings mandatory?

Attending all meetings is not mandatory. However, a member cannot miss more than half of all meetings (4/8), not including the interest meeting. If you cannot attend a meeting, tell an officer or message in the Remind 48 hours in advance as to why you can't attend a meeting.
